KUCHING: The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Women’s Wing will intensify grassroots engagement across Sarawak ahead of the coming state election, particularly among women and families.

Its chief, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, said the wing’s election machinery will work closely with party branches at the constituency level to identify voters and understand their concerns.

She said efforts will also focus on communicating the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government’s policies, achievements and development initiatives to communities throughout the state.

“Our women’s machinery focus is clear: to deepen our grassroots engagement and ensure that the policies, achievements, development agenda and inclusive social initiatives of the GPS government reach every community, especially women and families throughout Sarawak.

“Our work is not simply about delivering a message from one doorstep to another. It is about strengthening relationships built on trust, service and shared aspirations for Sarawak’s future,” she said.

Fatimah said this when contacted for her comments on the PBB Women Wing’s preparations for the coming state election.

She said the wing has remained involved in GPS’ election machinery before, during and after elections, with grassroots engagement continuing throughout the five-year term.

“This grassroots engagement, which GPS has sustained and maintained throughout its five-year term, is vital. People are our witness. Our report card is for everyone to see,” she said.

During the election period, Fatimah said members will ensure that the machinery remains organised and voters are kept properly informed.

She said the wing will also encourage eligible voters to exercise their democratic right and assist with voter turnout on polling day.

“We will remind our supporters of the importance of their vote and ensure that all coordination is carried out responsibly, efficiently and in accordance with the law,” she added.

Fatimah said the wing’s responsibilities will continue after polling day through regular engagement with communities and follow-ups on concerns raised by residents.

She said maintaining contact with voters beyond election periods is important in building public confidence in PBB and GPS.

“But our responsibility does not end when the polls close. After polling day, we will continue to engage with voters, follow up on their concerns and remain present in the community,” she said.

She also urged Women’s Wing members to remain united and disciplined in carrying out their responsibilities throughout the election period.

“Every member has a role to play. Every visit, every conversation and every act of service is an opportunity to strengthen understanding and confidence in GPS’ leadership and development agenda,” she said.

The coming state election follows Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s announcement that the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) will be dissolved on Monday (October 26).

Under the Sarawak State Constitution, the Election Commission must hold the state election within 60 days of the dissolution.
