KUCHING, 25 Oct: A total of 60 households from low-income (B40) groups received assistance through the Deepavali 2026 Benefit Program organised by Kuching Indian Association to alleviate household spending burden ahead of the festival.

Deputy Prime Minister of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said that the aid reflects the community's concern for those in need, as well as joint efforts to ensure no marginalised community members.

"This year, the association is providing assistance to 60 families from the B40 community. To the families who are receiving help today, I want to say that you are an important part of our community.

"We hope that this contribution will help alleviate some of the household expenses and bring additional comfort and happiness to your home as you prepare for Deepavali", he said.

His speech was read by MPP, Councillor Tan Kai at the Annual Deepavali Charity Contribution Event 2026 here on Saturday.

Sim also encourages governments, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), business sector, community associations and people to donate time, resources and expertise to support the implementation of welfare programmes.

"Governments, NGOs, businesses, community associations and individuals all play a role in supporting those in need.

"Therefore, I encourage all organizations, businesses and the public to donate their time, resources and expertise to charitable programs", he said.

The annual programme also reflects the spirit of unity and solidarity amongst the multi-racial and religious communities in Sarawak, in line with aspirations of the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), especially in terms of social inclusion. -TVS
