SIBU, 24 Oct: The use of technology and broader approaches to harassment are key to attracting more communities to mosques, not only for worship purposes but also as a center of science, ummah unification and community service.
Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof said that the management of mosques should be adapted to current developments, including enhancing knowledge and skills for utilizing technology to expand science delivery as well as program fulfillment to the community.
"It means we need to increase our knowledge and skills, especially in mastering technology to attract more people to mosques", he said.
He said this while addressing the Sarawak Mosque Management and Management Board's Standing Council for the Mahabharata Pilgrimage of the Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) Central Zone 2026 at the Sibu Islamic Complex Hall, today.
According to him, mosques should play a broader role than merely performing special worship but instead serve as centers of science, administration, community activities and rendering services to Muslims.
In this regard, he encouraged the management of mosques to diversify program filling by gaining expertise in various fields, including parenting and health, in addition to religious studies.
"The approach is important to ensure that mosques remain relevant to the needs of the community and are able to attract participation from different sections of the community", he added.
Fadillah also stressed that the trust to manage mosques and surau should be implemented with full integrity and based on Islamic values, as well as demanding creativity and innovation in program planning and obtaining financial resources.
He said that dependence on government allocations, representative contributions or external sources alone is not the only way to ensure the continuity of mosque activities.
On the contrary, the provision of quality and community-beneficial programmes should be a priority to encourage public participation and support.
He also recalled that the cleanliness and maintenance of mosque facilities, including toilets, reflects Islamic values which must be translated through daily practice and management.
Meanwhile, he emphasized the importance of strengthening the network between mosques through the use of technology to enable the sharing of lectures, lectures and science programs to be implemented more widely.
"With this approach, filling managed by experienced speakers can be shared with more mosques and churches, thus benefiting the community without each institution having to bear the cost of sponsorship separately", he added.
Thus, he said, the efforts to direct mosques must be accompanied by improvement in knowledge, skills and application of Islamic values so that the institution continues to be the heart of ummah unity and contribute to the formation of quality society. -TVS
