KUCHING: Voters should continue backing parties that champion Sarawak’s interests to sustain development and safeguard public welfare, said Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu’s (PBB) information chief urged voters to support Sarawak-based parties with a consistent record of serving the people in the coming state election.
“Whoever is nominated in this constituency or other constituencies, give your support to a state-based party. A party that gives priority to Sarawak,” he said.
He said this at the Flood and Crime Safety Community Campaign and launch of the Kampung Sambir Community Orchard at the village’s multipurpose hall in Asajaya today.
While acknowledging cooperation within the federal unity government, Abdul Karim said voters should keep Sarawak’s interests at the forefront rather than base their choices solely on political arrangements in Kuala Lumpur.
He pointed out that unity and cooperation had long been practised in Sarawak, urging voters to consider the record of parties that had consistently looked after their communities.
“Look for the party that has looked after us for a long time,” he said.
Abdul Karim also called on constituents to support whoever was nominated by the party leadership, both in Asajaya and other constituencies.
Reflecting on his 25 years as an elected representative, Abdul Karim said his enthusiasm for seeing the community progress remained strong.
He said his commitment centred on community development, supporting the party and safeguarding unity and wellbeing among residents.
With the state election approaching, he urged voters to prepare to choose their representatives and the government that would administer Sarawak for the next five years.
At the event, Abdul Karim also presented 500 MD2 pineapple plants contributed by the Malaysian Pineapple Industry Board to Kampung Sambir residents.
The Samarahan Agriculture Department contributed 87 saplings, while the Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) provided another 30 saplings for the community orchard initiative.
