KUCHING: Three locals, including a woman, were arrested after police seized 5.55g of suspected methamphetamine during a raid on a house in Kampung Sungai Apong here.

The suspects, comprising two men aged 18 and 25 and a 20-year-old woman, were detained by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) at around 6pm on Monday (Nov 2).

Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the drugs, kept inside 14 plastic packets, were estimated to be worth RM610.

“Initial urine screening tests found all three suspects positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

“Background checks found that the 25-year-old man had seven prior records and the woman has one prior criminal record. The 18-year-old suspect had no prior record,” he said.

All three suspects have been remanded for four days until Nov 7 to facilitate investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a jail term of up to five years and up to nine strokes of the cane, upon conviction.

Alexson said the arrest was the result of continuous intelligence-gathering efforts and public cooperation.

He reiterated that police would not compromise with anyone involved in drug trafficking, possession or activities linked to drugs.
