KUCHING: A total of 156 senior golfers from six nations competed in the inaugural Sarawak International Senior Amateur Golf Championship (SISAGC) 2026, which concluded at Kelab Golf Sarawak (KGS) yesterday (Oct 26).
Borneo SuperAct Events founder and organising chairman Datuk Eddie Abdullah said the two-day championship was conceived to complement Sarawak’s efforts to develop sports tourism.
“This championship was envisioned to complement the strategic efforts of the Sarawak government into the high-value niche market of sports tourism,” he said.
The championship brought together golfers from Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, Singapore, Japan and South Korea, with men aged 55 and above and women aged 50 and above competing in the 36-hole strokeplay tournament.
At the tournament, Miri’s Arni Yahya, 65, claimed the men’s overall nett title with a score of 126 over 36 holes, while South Korea’s Lee Jong Ho, 55, won the ladies’ overall nett title with 135 nett, nine under par.
Sarawak Seniors Society president Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam , who attended the closing ceremony, said the event offered participants an opportunity to build friendships across national borders.
“We brought together 156 golfers from six different nations, but on this course, you spoke one universal language.
“I hope that you have enjoyed, made new lifelong friends, shared great laughs, and exchanged stories that transcend borders,” he said.
Following the inaugural championship, organisers have confirmed that SISAGC will return next year, with the aim of establishing Kuching as a regular stop on the Asian senior amateur golf circuit.
