KUCHING, 27 Oct: The Sarawak Inter-Community Golf Tournament 2026 captured the YB Tan Sri Dato Sri William Mawan Ikom Trophy as a platform to strengthen friendship ties and foster spirit of sport amongst communities in Sarawak.
Malay Community Manager, Mohamad Duri said that the participation of players in gross and net categories reflected the involvement of golfers in the tournament, thus providing a space for them to compete healthy.
According to him, such tournaments not only provide an opportunity for players to showcase their skills, but also encourage interaction and cooperation between communities through sporting activities.
"It is hoped that the promotion of this tournament will continue to strengthen community ties, as well as foster a spirit of sportsmanship and friendship among participants", he said.
In the tournament, the Malay Community sent 10 players for the gross category and 15 players for the net category.
More sweetly, the Malay community emerged as a net category.
In the sport of golf, the gross category refers to the actual number of hits a player makes without taking into account handicaps, while the nett category takes into account handicap adjustments to allow players with different skill levels to compete more evenly.
The annual Inter-Community Golf Sarawak is a sporting platform that has the potential to bring together players from diverse community backgrounds, thus strengthening social ties through shared interest in golf.
The use of the name YB Tan Sri Dato Sri William Mawan Ikom Trophy is also a tournament identity that emphasizes sport as a medium to build friendship networks and foster community unity.
Such events are expected to further increase community participation in sporting activities and strengthen inter-community ties in Sarawak.-TVS
