The 10 partners are showcasing Sarawak’s hotels, travel services and event management capabilities to Chinese buyers at the three-day exhibition, held from Nov 3 to 5 at the China National Convention Centre Phase II.

Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Operations) and BESarawak chairman Datu Hii Chang Kee said stronger economic ties with China could create opportunities for collaboration through international business events.

“China is an important economic partner for Sarawak, with strengths in renewable energy, advanced manufacturing and digital technology that complement our ambitions under the Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).

“Business events provide a platform to build on these economic relationships by connecting industries, expertise and opportunities for collaboration. Our ambition goes beyond attracting international events. We want to ensure they contribute to stronger industries, greater innovation and long-term economic benefits for Sarawak,” he said.

China recorded 3.7 million visitor arrivals to Malaysia from January to August 2026, a 13.4 per cent increase compared with the same period last year, according to Tourism Malaysia.

BESarawak chief executive officer Jason Tan Chin Foo said previous engagements in China had generated interest among organisers, particularly in corporate meetings and incentive travel.

He added that Chinese buyers were also interested in Sarawak’s business landscape, cultural experiences and opportunities for industry collaboration.

“With our industry partners now coming together under one pavilion, we can offer buyers a more complete picture of Sarawak’s capabilities, converting market interest into business opportunities that benefit our local industry and economy,” he said.

CIMX 2026 is expected to attract 5,000 Chinese industry professionals. The Sarawak delegation also visited Tourism Malaysia’s Beijing office to explore joint promotional opportunities and strengthen cooperation in market development. — DayakDaily
