KUCHING, Nov 4: Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) has become the first local authority in Sarawak to attain Level 2 of the Smart City Rating, marking an upgrade from the Level 1 rating it received recently.
The recognition was presented in conjunction with the World Town Planning Day 2026 celebration at Petaling Jaya Civic Hall, alongside the launch of the Fifth National Physical Plan (RFN5) and Third National Urbanisation Policy (DPN3), officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
In a statement, DBKU said the achievement reflected its continued commitment to advancing smart city development through technology and innovation to improve urban management efficiency and the quality of public service delivery.
It also serves as a catalyst for the council’s efforts to develop Kuching into a sustainable, resilient and inclusive smart city, in line with Sarawak’s broader development aspirations.
As the first local authority in the State to achieve the rating, DBKU said it would continue expanding people-centric smart city initiatives, with a focus on solutions that directly benefit public well-being and quality of life.
