PUTRAJAYA: The ‘Anugerah Seri Angkasa’ (ASA) recognises the contributions of all broadcasting industry workers who work tirelessly to strengthen the country’s identity and Malaysia’s creative economy, said Communications Minister, Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil.

“ASA recognises those working both in front of the camera and behind the scenes in delivering information, producing quality entertainment, and strengthening the country’s identity and Malaysia’s creative economy,” he said at a press conference during the ‘Anugerah Seri Angkasa 2026’ (ASA2026) awards ceremony here today.

Also present were Communications Ministry’s Secretary-General, Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah; Malaysian National News Agency’s (BERNAMA) Chief Executive Officer, Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin; and Broadcasting Director-General, Datuk Ashwad Ismail.

Fahmi also expressed his appreciation to all staff under the Communications Ministry who worked tirelessly to ensure the success of ASA2026.

He hoped that more quality content would be showcased at future editions of the awards, in line with developments in the country’s broadcasting industry.

Fahmi said the ministry was also looking at ways to improve the awards, including introducing new categories in future editions.

“We believe that new forms of entertainment may also be considered for the ASA awards in the coming years. We will also consider the technical aspects that need to be taken into account. These will be evaluated after ASA2026 concludes,” he said.

Formerly known as the RTM Awards, ASA was initiated by the Ministry of Information in 1972 to recognise those involved in producing radio and television programmes for Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM).

The awards are a government initiative to promote the country’s broadcasting and creative industries and recognise their practitioners, including behind-the-scenes personnel such as production and broadcast crews, producers, designers, announcers, presenters and technical crews. – BERNAMA
