KUCHING: Tunku Putra-HELP (TPH) will resume classes as usual on Thursday (Oct 22) tomorrow after receiving clearance from the relevant authorities following an incident involving a student and a teacher on Wednesday.
In a statement, the school confirmed that a female teacher was injured during the incident and taken to hospital for treatment.
It said she was recovering well and had not sustained any critical injuries.
The school said its emergency response protocols were activated immediately, with teachers and staff taking steps to manage the situation while police and ambulance services were notified.
Students in the affected classroom were evacuated and no other injuries were reported.
TPH subsequently closed early on police advice as a precaution, with parents informed to collect their children.
The school also confirmed that the student allegedly involved was in police custody and was no longer enrolled at TPH. The case remains under police investigation.
Ahead of Thursday’s reopening, the school said it had reviewed its safety protocols and introduced additional security measures in consultation with the authorities.
Three auxiliary police officers will be stationed within the school compound, while appropriate security checks will be carried out upon entry. Longer-term measures are also being considered.
Senior management will hold assemblies to address the incident and reassure students, while counselling support will be available to those who require it.
TPH urged the public not to circulate unverified information or speculate about the incident while investigations are ongoing, and called for the privacy of those involved to be respected.
