KUCHING, Oct 27: The great talent in the field of Quran that Sarawak's children possess must continue to be cultivated and given sufficient opportunities to emerge, so as to produce more qari, qariah, hafiz and hafizah potentially in the future.

Deputy Minister in Sarawak's Premier Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agency, DBKU and Islamic Affairs), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said there are still many potential children of Sarawak in the field, but some may not have had enough space and opportunities to develop their respective capabilities.

In this regard, he said, various plans and efforts are being made to strengthen existing talent development, as well as identifying and guiding new layers to continue excellence in the field of Qur'an.

"As a commitment of the Government of Sarawak to strengthen Quranic education, the Darul Quran Hana Center of the Islamic Council of Sarawak (DHQc-MIS) has been established in 2025 as a new agency under the Islamic Council of Sarawak.

"Through the establishment of DHQc-MIS, the Government of Sarawak aims to ensure that opportunities for studying and deepening the Quran can be extended to all sections of society, whether in cities or rural areas", he said while addressing the Opening Ceremony of Quranic Examinations of Se-Borneo City at the Sarawak Islamic Complex Hall here today.

The inauguration was completed by the Sarawak Premier, Tan Sri's grandfather Johari Tun Openg.

Dr Abdul Rahman said the success of Nur Syakura Mohamad Musa who was crowned as Johan Qariah at the 66th International Salaf and Hafazan Qur'an Ranking Council in 2026, proves Sarawak's ability to forge a name internationally.

He said efforts to identify and guide the new coatings will continue to be strengthened.

According to Abdul Rahman, the Qur'an is a guideline of life that guides all aspects of human life.

In this regard, he urged the young generation to read, understand and live by the Quran in order to form an informed society and be morally noble along with advances in AI technology, digital economy and public infrastructure development. - TVS
