KUCHING, 17 Oct: Aquatic Sarawak (ASWK) channels RM60,900 incentives to medal-winning athletes and coaches at Sukan Malaysia (SUKMA) Selangor 2026 in recognition of their achievements and efforts.
Its president, Tan Kun Gee said the incentive is expected to inspire athletes to continue improving performance and hunting for greater success at SUKMA Kelantan 2028.
"We hope this incentive can be a source of inspiration for you to continue striving for excellence and greater success in the future.
"To athletes who haven't won medals, don't give up. A medal is not the determining factor in your entire sporting journey. What's more important is the determination to learn, improve performance and keep moving forward", he said.
He said this while addressing the Sarawak Birthday Welcome Dinner, Awards and Aquatic Awards ceremony of SUKMA Selangor 2026 at The Sarawak Club, tonight.
In attendance, Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Development Sarawak, Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu and Chief Executive Officer of the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) were accompanied by Director of the Sarawak Sports Council (MSNS), Mu'azamir Jili.
Commenting on the achievements of Sarawak's contingent in water sports at SUKMA Selangor 2026, Kun Gee said the diving squad won eight gold, three silver and three bronze medals while the men's and women's water polo teams each managed to take home gold medals.
For the sport of swimming, the Sarawak contingent won one gold, two silver and four bronze medals, despite failing to reach its original goal of gold.
He said the achievements should be used as a basis for assessing the strengths and weaknesses of the team, in order to package preparations for the upcoming challenges.
"If we want better results in 2028, preparations need to start today.
"We can't wait until the next school to start preparing. The effort must begin now", he said.
