KUCHING: Russia is keen to explore agricultural cooperation with Sarawak, particularly in rice cultivation technology, research and animal feed production.
Russian Ambassador to Malaysia Naiyl M. Latypov said Sarawak’s expertise and local knowledge in agriculture and veterinary-related fields could provide a useful basis for collaboration.
“We are very interested in Sarawak’s experience and capabilities in the veterinary field, particularly in animal feed production, including how it is produced and the types of medicines that can be developed for animals.
“We are also interested in Sarawak’s technology and knowledge in rice cultivation.”
Latypov said this after paying a courtesy call on Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Kompleks Satria Pertiwi here today.
He said Russia, despite its association with a cold climate, has vast territory with varied climatic conditions, including areas suitable for rice cultivation.
He said this makes Sarawak’s agricultural experience and technology relevant in areas such as rice production and research.
Latypov added that Russia is also interested in expertise in veterinary science and animal feed production, as it looks for ways to improve productivity in the agricultural sector.
