SIBU, 27 October: Upgrading of Cherry Lorong Park 10 through the second phase involves allocation of RM200,000 and is scheduled to start on November 6 with implementation period of four months.

Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee said the project focused on improving grasslands, installing irrigation systems, adding children's play facilities and replacing park benches.

"For the second phase, we will plant new grass, install irrigation systems, add another children's play area and replace all benches", he said during the dedication of the Cherry Ten Park upgrade project here today.

According to him, the first phase of the project includes grass-growing work, installation of exercise equipment for goldsmiths and garden users, as well as preparation of running trails and walking paths.

He also proposed the installation of solar powered street lights as part of efforts to improve facilities in the park.

However, he said some grasslands still need improvement and will be among the focuses in the second phase of the project.

Meanwhile, Tiang said the development of the park could potentially be continued through phase three, depending on the needs and views of locals.

He said there were residents who suggested the construction of a basketball court, but any decision would have to take into account community views before planning was finalized.

"We've always valued the public opinion. I have asked the community leader to conduct a survey first before we decide what will be done for phase three", he said.

According to him, the survey was important in determining whether the area of the field was maintained as a field or developed as a basketball court or pickleball pitch.

He said the views of the population should be taken into consideration because local communities' needs and preferences may differ. -TVS
