KUCHING: Puncak Borneo MP Datuk Willie Mongin has demanded a firm timeline to resolve outstanding constitutional issues affecting Sabah and Sarawak, questioning Putrajaya’s commitment to upholding the Federal Constitution.

According to a report on GPSParliament.com shared on his Facebook page, Willie raised the concerns during the winding-up debate on the Supply Bill 2027 by the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak) in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday (Oct 26).

He expressed disappointment that despite repeated emphasis on compliance with laws and the Constitution, several key constitutional issues remained unresolved without firm action or a transparent completion timeline.

Willie questioned the ministry’s dashboard, saying it highlighted measures already implemented but failed to specify when outstanding matters would be fully resolved.

He also raised concerns over Article 160E(2)(a), questioning the lack of action to amend provisions concerning Sabah and Sarawak’s status, which he said could be addressed without the consent of the state governments.

He also highlighted amendments involving oil-related matters made without the consent of the Sabah and Sarawak governments, alleging that these contravened the law and the Constitution.

“How long are we going to continue bargaining before these matters are finalised?” he asked.

Willie said Sabah and Sarawak representatives were sometimes accused of inciting hatred against Peninsular Malaysia when raising such concerns, stressing that this was not their intention.

He said he did not want the same issues to be repeatedly raised at every parliamentary sitting, but pledged to continue fighting for the welfare and interests of his constituents until the outstanding matters were resolved.
