MIRI: Forty-nine successful blood donations were recorded at the Second Miri City Blood Donor Day 2026, including five from first-time donors.

The campaign at MYY Mall Lutong on Saturday (Oct 24) drew 58 registered participants as organisers continued efforts to maintain blood supplies and encourage more people to become regular donors.

Organising chairman, Karambir Singh, said every donation could make a direct difference to patients who depend on blood transfusions.

“Every unit of blood donated represents hope, compassion and a second chance at life for patients in need. We are deeply grateful to every donor who took the time to participate,” he said.

The campaign also continued Miri’s 37-year tradition of voluntary blood donation activities, sustained through the involvement of community groups, donors and medical personnel.

Held under the theme “One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives.”, the event was jointly organised by the Miri City Caring Society, Miri Indian Association, Inner Wheel Club of Miri, Rotary Club of Miri Oil Town, Miri Piasau Community Welfare Association and Miri Punjabi Association.

Cr Leslie Lau, representing Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, met donors during the event and thanked them for supporting efforts to keep blood supplies available for patients in need.

Organisers also expressed their appreciation to volunteers, medical personnel, partner organisations and sponsors who contributed to the campaign.

Among those acknowledged were MYY Mall Lutong, Indocafé, MYY Roasted Chicken Rice and Sarawak Oil Palm.

Organisers hope the campaign will encourage more eligible residents to donate regularly and help hospitals maintain sufficient blood supplies for patients requiring transfusions and emergency treatment.
