KUCHING: Sarawak’s Genevie Lim and Johor’s Low Zi Yu have written a new chapter in Malaysian badminton, becoming the country’s first girls’ doubles champions at the World Junior Championships!
The national pair battled past Japan’s Nijika Kamata and Shizuku Kashio 15-7, 9-15, 15-12 in a gripping three-game final at the Cairo International Stadium, Egypt, on Saturday (Oct 17).
After taking the opening game, the Malaysians were forced into a decider when the Japanese pair fought back. But Genevie-Zi Yu held their nerve when it mattered most to seal a historic victory.
Zi Yu finally got over the line on her third attempt, having endured defeat in the finals of the 2024 and 2025 editions.
Genevie’s success, meanwhile, marks another significant step forward for Sarawak badminton, coming just months after the pair won bronze at the Asian Junior Championships.
From Sarawak and Johor to the top of the world junior podium.
Malaysia has its champions – Genevie Lim and Low Zi Yu have made history as the nation’s first.
