KUCHING: The inaugural Equator Adventure Championship 2026 brought together trail running and mountain biking in Matang, showcasing the area’s rainforest terrain and potential for adventure sports.
The event, which concluded at The Tibodak Village on Sunday (Oct 25), was organised by The Bold Warriors Adventure & Exploration Club in partnership with Pro Outdoor Gear.
Club president Richard Lee said the championship was envisioned as a platform to promote Matang as a sports tourism destination.
“We envisioned the event not just as a test of endurance, but as a diverse multi-discipline platform to elevate Matang as a top-tier destination for sport tourism,” he said.
The championship featured trail running as its main competition, complemented by a mountain trail biking side challenge.
Participants navigated technical single-track trails, demanding elevation gains and rainforest routes.
Lee said the inaugural championship had received an encouraging response from runners, cyclists, partners and the host community at The Tibodak Village.
“Executing an inaugural championship comes with great responsibility, but the incredible response from runners, cyclists, partners and the hosting community at The Tibodak Village has been overwhelming.
“This sets a fantastic foundation for future editions,” he said.
Organisers have begun planning the next edition, aiming to build on the inaugural event and expand Sarawak’s presence in regional adventure sports.
