EC to hold special meeting on Sarawak election on Nov 6

KUCHING: The Election Commission (EC) will convene a special meeting on Nov 6 to discuss and finalise key dates for the 13th Sarawak Election.

The meeting will be chaired by EC chairman Tan Sri Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun to determine critical dates including the issuance of the Writ of Election, Nomination Day, Polling Day, the electoral roll to be utilised, and other necessary operational preparations for the upcoming election.

The commission also noted that a press conference will be held immediately following the conclusion of the special meeting.

Earlier, the EC had received notification regarding the dissolution of the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) with effect from Oct 26.

It also confirmed that the official notification was received via a letter dated Oct 27 from Sarawak DUN Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar.

The dissolution is in accordance with Article 21(2) of the Sarawak Constitution.

Under Article 21(4) of the state constitution, a state election must be held within 60 days from the date of the dissolution.
