Asfia is ready to fight PRN13 if nominated.

KUCHING, 27 Oct: Speaker of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN), Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar has expressed his willingness to contest the 13th Sarawak State Election (PRN) if nominated by the party he represents.

He said the decision to run depends entirely on the nomination and the party's decision.

"If I'm nominated, my answer is no backing up", he said when responding to a reporter's question about the possibility of his being nominated to run in the next election at a press conference here today.

The statement thus demonstrated Asfia's willingness to consider her participation in PRN13 should she gain the confidence of the party.

However, he did not detail the areas of the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) that he might contest if nominated.

Asfia also stressed that the decision on the nomination is subject to the party he represents.

In the meantime, he explained, there are differences in terms of statutory provisions regarding a Speaker's position in the DUN including the situation of candidates who were defeated in elections but can still be in the House under certain provisions.-TVS
