MUKAH, 20 Oct: A 26-year-old local man was arrested by police during Operation Tapis on Guest Market Road, Selangau, yesterday for suspected possession of 0.50 grams of methamphetamine.

Mukah Regional Police Chief, DSP Muhammad Rizal Alias said the suspect was arrested at about 11 am in front of a telecommunications equipment store in the area.

According to him, the investigation found that the suspect handed over a cardboard straw tube containing a crystal cluster of suspected methamphetamine, with an estimated value of RM50.

"The suspect who worked as a labourer was then taken to the Drug Crime Investigation Division of IPD Oppenheimer for further investigation.

"Police's initial screening test of the suspect was negative, while a review found that the man had no prior record", he said in a statement today.

He said an initial investigation found the suspect admitted to possession of the drug and claimed to have been involved in drug abuse since June 2026.

"A case is being investigated under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possession of drugs.

"Maharashtra Magistrate's Court approved the three-day refusal request from October 20 to 23 this year to allow the investigation to be completed", he said.

He said the police were also conducting an investigation to identify the source of the drug supply and identify individuals believed to be its suppliers.
