(Video) Foul-smelling smoke from DUKE drains alarms motorists

KUALA LUMPUR: Thick, foul-smelling smoke rising from several drain grates along the Duta–Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE) caused concern among motorists heading towards the city on Wednesday morning (Oct 14).

The incident was spotted shortly after the Sentul toll plaza, with footage shared on Threads showing dense smoke spreading across the carriageway and reducing visibility.

“Thick smoke coming out of the drains after the Sentul toll towards Kuala Lumpur. It smells awful,” Threads user @eizaosmann wrote.

Another user, @snapaholicphotography, shared footage showing motorcyclists slowing down as they approached the affected stretch.

“Smoke was coming out of the drains. It smelled like burning rubber,” the user said.

Several social media users speculated that the smoke could be linked to burning underground cables, although the cause had yet to be officially confirmed.
