GEDONG, 18 Oct: The development of Serian-Gedong-Samarahan twin road will open up wider market access to rural population output, thus accelerating the growth of rural economy especially in Gedong.
Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the road network is part of the state government's strategic plan to strengthen connections between rural areas and economic hubs as well as open up new growth zones.
"That's why we are implementing some strategic changes in the area of this building. First, the building must have access to areas that can provide a wider market for local produce", he said.
He said this during his inaugural address at the One Village Leaders' Movement Initiation Program in Patirgi Ali Hall here today.
According to Brother Johari, the network of roads connecting Serian, Gedong and Samarahan before continuing towards northern Sarawak will strengthen Gedong's position in the state's main transportation network.
"In the will of God, we have a twin road from Serian straight to Gedong, then Samarahan and then northern Sarawak. This means that the building is in the middle of the main road network we are building", he said.
As such, he added, development of Samarahan to Simunjan area should also be implemented in an integrated manner to ensure the benefits are enjoyed by rural communities.
Earlier, Abang Johari followed the briefing on the latest developments of development projects in the building delivered by representatives of Borneo Development Corporation (BDC) Sdn Bhd, Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR), Sarawak Irrigation and Sewerage Department (DID) and Ministry of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development of Sarawak (M-FICORD) at Mini Isthmus. - TVS
