KUCHING, 16 Oct: Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) plans to set up the Quran Youth Academy to produce more quality young people from Sarawak, in addition to providing opportunities for young people to deepen and understand the Qur'an.
The MIS Elder, Datuk Misnu Taha said that the proposal was among the proposals brought to Prime Minister Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg during his honorary visit to the MIS here today.
According to him, the academy will operate under the Darul Hana Quran Center to provide a more organized space for learning the Qur'an for young people.
"With this academy, God willing, young people will not only be able to read the Qur'an well, but they will have a chance to understand it gradually", he said.
He said this after joining Johan Qariah of International Rankings, Nur Syakura Mohamad Musa, paid a tribute visit to Brother Johari to present the trophy and officially announce the victory.
Misnu said Nur Syakura is also expected to play a role as the superintendent of the Quran Youth Academy, along with the Qur'an teaching staff based under the center.
In related developments, MIS also implemented Anjung Ngaji initiative to register Quranic study houses across Sarawak under the Darul Hana Quran Centre.
He said the initiative enabled the centre to monitor teaching implementation, coordinate syllabus and channel assistance to registered Anjung Ngaji.
"To date, there are about 800 Anjung Ngaji under the Darul Hana Quran Center", he said.
Meanwhile, Misnu announced that the Borneo City Quranic Exhibition will be held from October 26 to 29 in Kuching, with the participation of 32 participants from Sabah, Sarawak, Brunei and five provinces in Borneo.
The inaugural ceremony of the program is scheduled to be completed by the Sarawak Premier on October 27, while the closing ceremony on October 29 will be completed by the late President of the State of Sarawak Tun Pehin Sri Dr.
According to him, the programme was part of MIS's efforts to promote Quranic recitation and produce more participants who could potentially represent Sarawak at a higher level. - TVS
