Special Ops: Eight vehicles seized at Kawa Stone

KUCHING, 15 Oct: Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ) seized eight vehicles in enforcement operations involving HID/LED, Luxury and Foreign Citizen Drivers' Ops (PEWA) on MJC-Batu Kawa Road and Batu Kawa-Kuching Road yesterday.

The operation carried out by the JPJ Kuching Operations Unit involved inspection of 759 vehicles of various types.

According to the statement of JPJ Sarawak, among the offences detected were no driver's license, expiry of driving licence, use of HID/LED lights, not wearing seatbelts and registration number that did not conform to specified specifications.

"The inspection also found various technical defects of vehicles violating road rules.

"Out of the total seized vehicles, a luxury vehicle was seized due to the expiration of its Motor Vehicle License (MV) and insurance coverage", according to the statement.

A pickup truck was also seized after it was found driven by a foreign citizen without a driver's license.

Five motorcycles and one other scooter were seized for making extreme modifications that violate regulations.

JPJ Sarawak stressed that enforcement actions will be continuously continued to enhance compliance with road laws and ensure the safety of all road users is preserved. -TVS
