KUCHING, Oct 21: Sarawak civil servants will receive Special Financial Assistance (BKK) equivalent to two months’ salary, while federal civil servants serving in the State will receive a one-off payment of RM700.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced the assistance during his ministerial winding-up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUNS) sitting today.

He said the assistance for members of the Sarawak State Civil Service would be calculated based on their last basic salary for November 2026, with payment to be made before the end of the year.

“This is expected to benefit approximately 19,851 state civil servants, with an estimated total expenditure of RM144 million,” he informed.

Meanwhile, federal civil servants serving in Sarawak, including teachers, healthcare workers and security personnel, will receive a one-off Special Financial Assistance of RM700 in recognition of their contributions to the State’s development.

“This is expected to benefit approximately 132,347 federal civil servants, involving an estimated expenditure of RM93 million. The payment would be made in the first quarter of 2027,” he said.

He expressed hope that the assistance would further motivate public servants to improve service delivery and continue contributing to Sarawak’s development.

Abang Johari said Sarawak government recognised the dedication and sacrifices of public servants, whose contributions were instrumental in delivering development and essential services to communities throughout Sarawak.

“On behalf of the GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) government, I wish to express our highest appreciation to all members of the civil service. Sarawak’s achievements today are the result of the hard work and dedication of every one of you,” he said.

He said the government remained committed to safeguarding the welfare of civil servants, including through the construction and upgrading of government offices and quarters to provide more comfortable working and living conditions, particularly for those serving in remote rural areas.

He added that continuous investment in strengthening the leadership and capabilities of the civil service was essential to achieving Sarawak’s development aspirations.

“To build a world-class Sarawak, we need a world-class civil service,” he said.

As Sarawak moves closer to its Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 targets, he called on government agencies to accelerate project implementation and improve the delivery of services to the people. — DayakDaily
