KUCHING, Oct 21: The RM3.8 billion Miri–Marudi–Mulu (Kuala Melinau) and Long Panai–Long Lama road project is progressing ahead of schedule. As of September 2026, the first work package had achieved 39.93 per cent physical progress, while the second recorded 32.56 per cent.
Speaking during his ministerial winding-up speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) here today, Deputy Premier and Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the project, undertaken under the Highland Development Agency (HDA), is among the major infrastructure initiatives aimed at improving road connectivity in Sarawak’s northern and interior regions.
He also reported that the Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA) is overseeing 43 infrastructure projects involving roads, bridges and water supply under HDA.
“Of these, 25 projects have been completed, while another 15 are under construction and three remain at the detailed design stage.
“The figures indicate that more than half of the infrastructure projects under HDA have been completed, while the remaining 18 are at various stages of implementation and planning,” he said.
Beyond infrastructure development, Uggah outlined the Sarawak government’s plans to place greater emphasis on economic and educational programmes across its regional development agencies.
He explained that the strategy would focus on enhancing skills, increasing participants’ income and improving livelihoods in line with the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030). — DayakDaily
