BAU: Recreational activities such as hiking, running and walking have the potential to attract more visitors to Bau District, which is rich in natural beauty.

Deputy Transport Minister (Riverine and Marine), Datuk Henry Harry Jinep said Bau’s terrain and the beauty of its flora and fauna were attractions for visitors.

He said the wide range of recreational activities held in the district, which have received an encouraging response from the public, further promoted Bau.

“Bau is very active in running, walking, hiking and so on. This is a good thing for promoting Bau.

“The geography, topography, mountains, flora and fauna are all attractions for the public,” he told reporters after officiating at the National Sports Day and Sarawak Academy Fire Trail (SAFT) Run 2026 launch ceremony at the Fire and Rescue Academy Malaysia Sarawak here on Sunday (Oct. 18).

Also present were Bau District Officer Eddy Nayoi and Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department’s (JBPM) Deputy Director, Tiong Ling Hii.

Henry, who is also Tasik Biru assemblyman, said he hoped more similar programmes would be organised in future to encourage recreational activities and attract more visitors to Bau.

He said SAFT Run 2026, held in Bau for the first time, received a good response, with more than 300 participants in the 15KM trail run and 5KM fun run categories.

The programme also included the Fire Education Drill (FED), which involved about 100 youth participants.

Henry also expressed his appreciation to the fire department and strategic partners who helped make the programme a success.
