MIRI, 17 Oct: A 56-year-old man suffered a loss of RM363,887.49 after being suspected to be the victim of home buying fraud in Kuching.

Miri Regional Police Chief, ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the case was reported at Miri Central Police Headquarters yesterday.

"The victim claimed to have known a man through work and friendship affairs for about two years.

"In November 2025, the victim intends to buy a house for family use in Kuching before the suspect is accused of offering five houses in Abadi Park which are said to be bank auction houses at lower prices than the market", he said in a statement today.

He said the suspect also offered to handle the purchase deal, including the preparation of a sale-and-sell agreement (SPA) and transfer of ownership.

"Subsequently, the victim made several payments in phases from November 2025 to January 2026 for the purpose of home purchase, deposit, land measurement as well as fees related to the Board of Domestic Revenue (LHDN).

"However, the purchase deal was allegedly not completed as promised, while the victim has yet to receive complete documents proving ownership of the house despite repeatedly contacting the suspect for clarification", he said.

He said that Oolis is currently conducting an investigation to verify the actual status of the property being offered, cash flow paid and involvement of relevant parties in the deal.

The case is under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
