KUCHING, 14 Oct: Member of the Jepak State Legislative Assembly (ADUN), Iskandar Turkee urged the Government of Sarawak to expedite implementation of affordable housing projects, clean water supply, roads and basic facilities.

He said it is important to improve the well-being of the population especially B40, M40 and rural communities.

"The need for housing is increasingly pressing due to population growth and the price of houses in Bintulu which are expensive and limited especially for the B40s and M40s", he said.

He said this while discussing the Bill for Supply (Bill) 2027 at the 19th Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Conference today.

In order to overcome the water supply problem in Samarakan, he proposed construction of a high-level tank with pumps because the nearby river is polluted and not suitable as a source of mini water treatment plant.

"Thanks for the approval of mini water treatment plant in Annau as well as high-end tank and pump projects in Serupai and Kemana", he said.

In terms of roads, Iskandar also wanted to know about the status of upgrading Tatau to Kuala Tatau or Fasa One road for 6,574 kilometers, from the junction of Pan Borneo Highway to National School (SK) Kuala Annau to a busy road and implementation of Phase Two from Annau to Kuala Tatau under 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK-13).

"This road network is important to connect the people of Tatau and Kuala Tatau, as well as facilitate agricultural transportation and improve access to emergency services such as pumps and ambulances", he explained.
