KUCHING, 14 Oct: The continuous commercial concrete jet rating in Sarikei is essential to improve safety and operational efficiency as well as supporting Sarawak's economic growth and trade.

Repok's State Advisory Council (ADUN) member Dato Sri Huang Tiong Sii said the existing jets were out of service and limited in capacity.

"At last conference, the Hon'ble Minister announced that this project is in the design stage and expected to be tendered in the second quarter of 2026.

"Construction is expected to start in the third quarter of 2026 for 24 months, while commercial jets are expected to be operational by the fourth quarter of 2028", he said.

He said this while discussing Sarawak Budget 2027 at the 19th Sarawak State Assembly (DUN) Conference, today.

Regarding access to treated water, Tiong Sii explained that there are still 12 long houses in the rural areas of Sarikei including Sebangkoi/Bukit Kayu Malam and Sungai Mawang/Sungai Rusa have not fully enjoyed the facilities.

"People in this area still depend on rivers and rainfall that are not guaranteed quality and risk affecting health especially children and golden citizens", he said.
