KUALA LUMPUR, 19 Oct: The implementation of projects under the MADANI Upgrading Villages programme is monitored periodically to avoid delays.

Deputy Finance Minister Liew Chin Tong said that each executive agency is required to submit a report to the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU), Prime Minister's Department to ensure the project is implemented as planned and benefits local communities.

"As of October 2026, a total of 221 villages have been approved under the programme, with RM104 million allocated for this year's project implementation.

"Each agency is required to submit periodic monitoring reports to the ICU to ensure that the implementation of planned projects can be monitored", he said in the Dewan Rakyat today.

He answered Grandpa Dr. Richard Rapu (Magazinh Party Sarawak-Betong) who wanted to know the breakdown of allocation of MADANI Upgrading Village and MADANI Upgrading School, number of beneficiaries as well as monitoring mechanisms to avoid funding delays.

Commenting further, Chin Tong said the government will improve implementation of the program through Budget 2027.

"This includes facilitating the procurement process in order to speed up project implementation and avoid crowding out village elections in the same parliamentary constituency", he explained.

Responding to further questions about the involvement of representatives and local authorities in the project selection, he said that the government accepted the proposal well to ensure that the projects implemented meet the needs of the locals.

"Any implementation deficiencies are reported to the Ministry of Finance or ICU for further action", he said.

He also announced that the MADANI Angkat Village Program will be continued in 2027, with an expanded focus on the People's Housing Projects (PPR) community to ensure more people benefit. -TVS
