MIRI, Oct. 18: A 29-year-old local man is under investigation for allegedly making a false police report about an incident involving a mule designed to avoid paying off debts.
Miri District Police Chief, ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said that it received a report at 6.37pm yesterday alleging the man was stabbed by a man with an iron gun in front of a laundry shop in Lutong Baru, around 3am on the same day.
"Plaintiffs allege the suspect stole his Honor cell phone and a motorcycle key belonging to his friend before escaping using an old white Proton Saga Aeroback.
"However, an investigation by the Criminal Investigation Division of IPD Miri found that there were some discrepancies and information clusters in the report", he said in a statement today.
He said further investigations were successful in proving that the reported falcon incident did not occur as alleged.
"The man later admitted that the police report he made was false, while the cell phone and motorcycle keys allegedly stolen were actually in his friend's storage before the report was made.
"As a result, a police report was made by the investigating officer and the case is being investigated under Section 182 of the Penal Code for providing false information to public servants", he said.
If convicted, the man could face up to six months in prison or a fine of up to RM2,000 or both.
