PUSA, 17 Oct: Batang Saribas 2 Bridge in Pusa is expected to open to traffic on December 5, thus strengthening the connectivity network and boosting local economic activity.

Sarawak Prime Minister, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Abang Openg, said the 2.43 kilometre bridge will be an important facility in facilitating population movement and opening up more economic opportunities in the area.

"We want these infrastructure facilities to be fully utilized. As connections between the areas improve, agricultural and fisheries products are easier to market, business can grow and more visitors have the opportunity to come to Pusa.

"These are among the development benefits that need to translate into increased incomes and people's well-being", he said.

The text of his speech was read by Deputy Prime Minister Sarawak, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embassy, at the 2026 Tandang Sari Regatta Inauguration Meeting in Tandang Sari Square, here today.

Brother Johari said the opening of Batang Saribas Bridge 1 in July 2025, Krian River Bridge in March last year and Lupar Bridge 1 last May were also important developments in improving connectivity between areas in the part.

In related developments, a total of 46 development projects worth RM205 million are being implemented in the DUN area of Beting Maro through the BDDA.

The project covers infrastructure development, social and women affairs, agro-food, entrepreneurship, utilities and tourism.

He said that the Government of Sarawak is committed to ensuring development is implemented comprehensively and in a balanced manner through the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), to strengthen the economy, create employment opportunities and improve people's living standards.

He said the Sarawak Budget 2027 allocated about RM10.098 billion for development spending, including RM6.4 billion for rural development.

Regarding the Tandang Sari Regatta, he said that the event was not just a boat race but a local heritage reflecting spirit of solidarity, courage and cooperation.
