SIMANGGANG: Age is no barrier to embracing new technology, as community leaders, including a 74-year-old participant, took part in an IT skills workshop here.
Sri Aman MP Datuk Seri Doris Sophia Brodie said the participation of senior community leaders demonstrated that people of all ages could continue learning and developing their skills to keep pace with the digital era.
“This proves that age is not a barrier to continuing to learn, gain knowledge and improve our skills,” she said when officiating the closing ceremony of the IT Skills Enhancement Workshop for Community Leaders at the Sarawak Skills Development Centre here on Friday (Oct 16).
The workshop, which involved 25 participants, focused on practical digital skills including Microsoft Word, Google Workspace, ChatGPT and official document management.
Doris said such skills were increasingly important for grassroots leaders to improve administrative efficiency, prepare reports and deliver services to their communities more effectively.
She also commended the enthusiasm and commitment shown by the participants, particularly those aged over 70.
The workshop was the sixth series since it was introduced in early 2025 and the first to be conducted through a collaboration with the All Party Parliamentary Group Malaysia on Sustainable Development Goals (APPGM SDG).
Doris also expressed her appreciation to the trainers and congratulated all participants, expressing hope that the knowledge gained would be applied in carrying out their responsibilities as community leaders.
The workshop was jointly organised by the P.202 Sri Aman Service Centre, APPGM SDG, Sarawak Skills Development Centre Sri Aman and district offices within the Sri Aman parliamentary constituency.
