ADVERTISE HERE
KUCHING, 17 Oct: Asajaya Member of the State Legislative Assembly (ADUN), Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, is ready to give way to another candidate to replace him in the seat at the 13th Sarawak State Election (PRN).
He said the decision regarding the election of candidates is the right of the Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, and the supreme leadership of the Sarawak Joint Party (GPS) to be respected.
He said that after 25 years of service in the area, his relationship with the people is no longer just as a representative and voter, but has become a friend.
"I know the people in that area. After 25 years, they're no longer just voters for me. They've become my friends.
"If there's a proposal to give young people the opportunity to take over, I'm willing to back down. I will support whoever is elected to take over the place", he said.
He said this while answering a reporter's question about his position at the upcoming PRN, after the Dayak Daily Writing Competition Awards Ceremony here today.
Commenting further, Abdul Karim said that the development agenda in Asajaya should be continued despite the exchange of representatives as there are still many projects and planning to be implemented, including in Samarahan area.
Asked if he would be willing to compete in another DUN area if nominated, he said that for now, he is more comfortable continuing to serve in his native Asajaya.
