KUCHING: About 1,300 guests are expected to attend the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Sarawak annual dinner on Nov 8, which will be officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

IEM chairman Datuk Dr Angelia Liew San Chuin said the dinner, scheduled to take place at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), aims to bring together industry representatives and members of the engineering fraternity.

“We hope to receive greater participation from the industry,” she told reporters after paying a courtesy call on Abang Johari at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex here today (Oct 19).

She said the visit is also to thank the Premier for his support towards the successful hosting of the Federation of Engineering Institutions of Southeast Asia and the Pacific (FEISEAP) event in Sarawak last month.

The event attracted more than 2,000 trade visitors and about 800 delegates and members from 25 countries, providing a platform for engineering professionals across the region and beyond to gather and exchange views.

Liew said feedback from member economies had been encouraging, with participants expressing interest in returning to Sarawak to learn more about developments in the state.

Meanwhile, IEM Sarawak will organise its annual IEM Run on Dec 6, with the starting point at the Sarawak Science Centre.

She said the run is open not only to engineers but also members of the public, adding that the organisation hoped to attract a strong turnout.

The initiative aims to encourage broader public participation in activities organised by IEM Sarawak beyond the engineering profession.
